Coaching has allowed me a safe and structured space, away from the hustle and bustle of daily work, to reflect on my work and my development as a leader.  It gives me an opportunity to de-compress, distil my thoughts, process my emotions and thoughts, and talk openly about my insecurities. It essentially clears the deck, for me to generate new ideas and obtain new insights on my work.  That this was a regular exercise, throughout a very intense period of my career, was an additional benefit. I’ve come to look forward to these sessions, as a mental spa.

In terms of outcomes, there are many – I’ve come to learn from the similar experiences of others, I’ve come to understand the importance of having the quiet time, to question myself and process my thoughts.  But perhaps most importantly, it has given me first taste of the need to set time aside, which I will henceforth, do quite properly.

Dennis draws on a huge wealth of experience from his long career and forges a very strong coaching relationship that is always outcome oriented. I truly look forward to his sessions. He quickly became accustomed to my own style, strengths and shortcomings and has provided excellent advice and insight into my leadership.  He certainly will challenge you, so do not expect to sit back and simply listen to a long sermon!

Dennis listens extremely well and gains a deep understanding of the situation before extracting the right way forward.  Some of the moments of insight during his coaching sessions have been truly profound and the monthly cadence of the meetings allows me to be very cognisant of his teachings as I carry out my day to day activities.

He is a good active listener and quick to pick up points of concern for more detailed discussion. He is able to stop me when I digress. This helps me to focus, focus, focus. Dennis is an excellent coach. He is a good listener and draws from his past experience whilst in employment as well as past coaching advice. He is culturally sensitive and has been most accommodating of my schedules. He demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and process and would certainly recommend him for Directors and above. He does try to generate the solutions from me rather than tell me what to do and this is all good practice.
